The candidate interested in studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine in English-speaking departments in Italy must take part in the IMAT (International Medical Admission Test), which is held once a year at an examination center in Athens.
What is IMAT ?
The IMAT (International Admission Test) is a multiple-choice test.
According to the latest announcement from the Italian Ministry of Education, the structure of IMAT is as follows:
9 questions critical thinking skills and general knowledge
23 biology questions
15 chemistry questions
13 physics-mathematics questions
The total number of IMAT questions is 60 multiple choice. Each correct answer is scored with 1.5 points, while for each incorrect answer, 0.4 points are deducted.
In 2009, the first English-speaking University departments appeared in Italy.
The number of places at English-speaking universities has been increasing every year, with the total number of places for English-speaking schools in Italy for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine currently reaching 1049.
The candidate who wishes to take part in the IMAT must achieve a good score to secure admission to one of the English-speaking medical schools in Italy and of course to his first choice.
